Marco Zenti, a designer and collaborator with the laboratories at the Politecnico in Milan, requested that Maroni produce prototypes of hardwood bodies and necks for acoustic and electric guitars and basses, using 3-D models that he had designed. The challenge lay in taking an industrial design approach to the design of musical instruments, leveraging the advanced technologies of virtual product design and the power of numerically controlled systems to produce precision-crafted necks and bodies that are then lavished with traditional dedication to detail and careful finishing.
The result of this partnership belies the common misconception that automated manufacturing necessitates a simplification of the product and connotes limited attention to detail.
